Delta Lloyd upgrades to TIA 6.4
Virum, Denmark - Delta Lloyd, a large general insurance company located in the Netherlands, has upgraded to TIA Solution version 6.4.
As a TIA Technology customer since 2004, Delta Lloyd is very familiar with the TIA Solution and in September 2012, the company took the leap to move from running on version 5 to 6.4. Two of the company’s non-health private insurance brands – Delta Lloyd (intermediary) and OHRA (direct) are currently running TIA. The latest project was a full upgrade, which lasted one year.
TIA 6.4 gives insurance businesses a faster way to respond to the market, create smarter products and gain more control and security over their IT system. It adds new features such as product variants, multi-tariffs and multi-site functionality that help insurance companies like Delta Lloyd become more agile and respond quickly to new opportunities.
"Our goal is to achieve more atomized and efficient processes to realize cost reductions and increase customer satisfaction. The standard TIA functions will help us realize these goals by, among other things, supporting the registration and handling in our TIA environment"
Among the many features that version 6.4 possesses, it is the claims functionality, multi-dimensional product versions and parallel batch processes that Delta Lloyd are most interested in.
“The functional improvements in TIA 6.4 are very promising,” says Marcel Dirkse, Sr. Business Consultant at Delta Lloyd. “We believe that many of the new features will be used in future implementations.”
The company is currently running a straight through processing (STP) project on their claims handling. TIA Version 6.4 can help insurers handle the entire insurance claims process from first notice of loss (FNOL) to administering Service Suppliers and also managing Complaints. The system focuses on efficiency and policyholder service.
“Our goal is to achieve more atomized and efficient processes to realize cost reductions and increase customer satisfaction. The standard TIA functions will help us realize these goals by, among other things, supporting the registration and handling in our TIA environment,” says Marcel Dirkse.
A smooth upgrade and six lessons learned
The upgrade process went very smooth but like every major IT upgrade project there were hiccups during the process. Fortunately, there was only one big challenge during the project and Delta Lloyd was satisfied with the resolution and support given by TIA.
Marcel Dirkse has come up with six valuable learnings that could help other insurers that are considering going through an upgrade:
- Invest in your start-up
Make sure that your management team is completely committed to the upgrade project and explain your business case and benefits in a strategic and operational way. Make sure that the project mandate and scope are transparent for everyone involved.
- The proof is in the pudding
The important issues came up after Delta Lloyd went live. It is impossible to test 100%. The alternative is shadowing, if you have a production-like second environment.
- Isolate the upgrade
It is difficult to score on a moving goal so restrict changes parallel to the upgrade. The best advice is to only do a technical upgrade.
- Dedicated project team
It can cost a lot of time if resources are replaced, so make sure you have the right people on the project and that they are completely on board.
- Let TIA check your environment
The composition of hardware and software is not mentioned in the support matrix. Reduce risk with a health check and get pre-implementation advice from the TIA experts.
- Check your Oracle license model
Delta Lloyd had TIA installed on a virtual environment (VMware) but Oracle demands a license for every physical machine.
